Works Description
Following the construction of Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre, PSE in conjunction with ARL Solutions was brought by Fletchers Construction to carry out the removal of asbestos from stages l, 2 & 3 of the old Grey Base Hospital in preparation for demolition of the buildings.

Scope of project
ARL Solutions was initially brought it to remove asbestos from stages 1 and 1a of the demolition project. This included 43 different asbestos containing materials (ACMs) as identified in the asbestos surveys, as well as some ACMs which were discovered by the asbestos removal crew prior to demolition. The subfloor voids also had asbestos contaminated soil due to previous poor removals. ARL Solutions worked with the involved parties to plan the safe demolition of the building to minimize contamination to demolition debris and the subsequent removal and remediation of asbestos contaminated soil.

After a stellar performance on these stages, ARL Solutions was awarded the asbestos removal work for stages 2 & 3. Stage 2 included the removal of 62 different ACMs, as well as the removal and remediation of contaminated soil in the subfloor.
